The first entry in the Dresden Files series, which I have just now gotten around to reading after hearing for years everyone harping on and on about how good it is, is a perfectly good novel. That’s about all I have to say about it. It’s good. Not bad. Not great. But good. It’s entertaining, and it’s enthralling lead character makes up for it’s somewhat lackluster mystery. Overall, a pretty strong novel that does a good job of setting up the world and characters for future entries.

It was a fantastic read. Investigation and magic with a little bit of wickedness to hit the spot

I found the overall book really good! There were some parts that seemed really predictable and the writing style isn't my preference but the book was really good, I can't wait to get into the next one.

  • Fast and entertaining, but not the best book I have read

I had just finished reading a grueling novel and needed something fast, 'light', and entertaining to get back into reading. The Dresden Files book one was just what I needed. The writing style is casual and very easy to follow. The story was entertaining but fairly obvious from the start. It was a good introduction to the world of Harry Dresden and sorcery. I will definitely read more of this series but only after the prices drop significantly since I was able to read this one so fast. Definitely a GoodRead!

Just the kind of book you need when you're looking to escape for a while. Great characters, images and creatures. Look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Let me start by saying this: When for a purpose outside my own, I hate reading. However, on my own will and accord, I really enjoy it! This book....this wonderful, wonderful book made me love reading even more! It was one of those books that you don't want to put down! I've been reading at home, during school, and even at work (but don't tell anyone). I've been rolling around and creating a world of my own and have been preparing to write it, & this book gave me the extra step an more of a hype to get started right away! :) Loved this book! Look forward to reading the others! Oh thank god there are more of them!!! Thank You Jim!
